Last night, I fell asleep to the sound of drunken singing and laughter from the house next door. I was strangely satisfied. Where, when the sun glistens the black and white of a newspaper hollows- when the moon shines it is comforting to be satisfied. For how many things could go wrong in a day? You could slip and fall into an open manhole and never be found again. You could lay a bet with your friends from school and strangle yourself to death, by mistake. You could be on the wrong side of a speeding car. The wrong end of a falling bridge. In the middle of an earthquake. At the behest of an angry man. In a train and the brakes fail. Or, you be lying carelessly on brown mattress – with love – and listening to joyous voices from the house next door. At least, someone’s happy…
